Barbell Curl Press Extension

BicepsBarbellIntermediate

The Barbell Curl Press Extension targets the biceps and triceps while also engaging the shoulders. This exercise combines a curl with a press extension for a comprehensive upper body workout.

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell with an underhand grip.
  2. Perform a curl by bending your elbows and bringing the barbell towards your shoulders.
  3. Once at the top, press the barbell overhead until your arms are fully extended.
  4. Lower the barbell back to shoulder level and then return to the starting position.

How to perform the Barbell Curl Press Extension

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Barbell Curl Press Extension using your barbell.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your biceps.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your biceps rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
