Cable Lateral Lunge (VERSION 2)

Perform a cable lateral lunge to target your lower body muscles, particularly the glutes and quadriceps.

  1. Stand next to a cable machine with the pulley set at the lowest position.
  2. Attach the ankle strap to the cable and secure it to your outside ankle.
  3. Step away from the machine, keeping tension on the cable.
  4. Lower your body into a lunge by bending your knee and pushing your hips back.
  5. Return to the starting position and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

How to perform the Cable Lateral Lunge (VERSION 2)

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Cable Lateral Lunge (VERSION 2) using your cable.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your glutes.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your glutes rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
