Cable Standing Back Wrist Curl

Stand facing a cable machine with your feet shoulder-width apart. Position the cable attachment at waist height. Grasp the cable handle with an overhand grip, palms facing down. Allow your arms to fully extend in front of you, with a slight bend in your elbows. Keeping your upper arms stationary, exhale as you curl your wrists towards your body. Pause for a moment at the top of the movement, feeling the contraction in your forearms. Inhale as you slowly lower your wrists back to the starting position, fully extending them. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

How to perform the Cable Standing Back Wrist Curl

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Cable Standing Back Wrist Curl using your cable.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your forearms.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your forearms rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
