Body WeightIntermediate

In the Extended Side Angle Yoga Pose, you deepen your stretch and enhance your balance.

  1. Begin in a standing position and step your feet wide apart.
  2. Turn your right foot out 90 degrees and bend your right knee.
  3. Extend your left arm overhead while placing your right elbow on your right knee.
  4. Reach your left arm over your head, creating a straight line from your left fingertips to your right foot.
  5. Hold the pose, breathing deeply, then switch sides.

How to perform the Extended Side Angle Yoga Pose

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Extended Side Angle Yoga Pose using your body weight.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your primary working muscles.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your working muscles rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
