Flexor carpi radialis

The flexor carpi radialis is a muscle located in the forearm that helps in wrist flexion and abduction.

To strengthen this muscle, perform wrist flexion exercises using a light dumbbell or resistance band.

  1. Start by sitting or standing with your arm extended in front of you.
  2. Hold a dumbbell or resistance band with your palm facing up.
  3. Slowly bend your wrist upwards, bringing the weight towards your forearm.
  4. Lower the weight back to the starting position.
  5. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

How to perform the Flexor carpi radialis

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Flexor carpi radialis using your body weight.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your forearms.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your forearms rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
