Modified Hindu Push-Up (Male)

1. Start in a push-up position with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. 2. Raise your hips up and move your torso into a downward dog position. 3. Lower your torso down towards the ground while simultaneously bending your elbows and keeping them close to your body. 4. As your torso nears the ground, push your chest forward and upward while straightening your arms. 5. Lift your hips back up, moving them towards the ceiling, and return to the downward dog position. 6. Lower your hips back down and repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

How to perform the Modified Hindu Push-Up (Male)

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Modified Hindu Push-Up (Male) using your body weight.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your pectoralis major.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your pectoralis major rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
