One Arm Twisted Clean and Press

BarbellIntermediate

The One Arm Twisted Clean and Press is a dynamic exercise that targets the shoulders, core, and legs. It combines a clean and press movement with a twist for added core engagement.

  1. Start with a kettlebell in one hand, feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Lower the kettlebell to the floor while twisting your torso towards the opposite side.
  3. In one motion, clean the kettlebell to shoulder height while standing up.
  4. Press the kettlebell overhead, ensuring your core is engaged.
  5. Lower the kettlebell back to the starting position and repeat.

How to perform the One Arm Twisted Clean and Press

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the One Arm Twisted Clean and Press using your barbell.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your primary working muscles.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your working muscles rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
