Plank Jack on Elbows

Body WeightIntermediate

The Plank Jack on Elbows is an effective core exercise that also engages your shoulders and legs. You start in a plank position on your elbows and jump your feet out and in, similar to a jumping jack.

  1. Begin in a forearm plank position with your elbows directly under your shoulders.
  2. Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Jump your feet out wide, then quickly jump them back together.
  4. Maintain core tension throughout the movement.

How to perform the Plank Jack on Elbows

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Plank Jack on Elbows using your body weight.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your primary working muscles.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your working muscles rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
