1. Start in a seated position on the floor with your legs apart and straight. 2. Place your hands on the floor shoulder-width apart, slightly in front of your hips. 3. Lean forward and lift your hips off the ground, transferring your weight onto your hands. 4. Engage your core muscles and slowly lift your legs off the ground, extending them out to the sides. 5. Keep your body straight and solid, maintaining a tight and controlled position. 6. Hold the straddle planche position for the desired amount of time while maintaining proper form. 7. To release, slowly lower your legs back down to the ground and return to the seated position.

How to perform the Straddle Planche

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Straddle Planche using your body weight.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your triceps.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your triceps rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
