StrongMan Log Lift

Body WeightAdvanced

The StrongMan Log Lift is a powerful exercise that targets multiple muscle groups, including the shoulders, back, and legs. It involves lifting a log-shaped weight from the ground to shoulder height.

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, with the log positioned in front of you.
  2. Squat down and grip the log with both hands, keeping your back straight.
  3. Engage your core and drive through your legs to lift the log to your shoulders.
  4. Press the log overhead until your arms are fully extended.
  5. Lower the log back to your shoulders and then to the ground with control.

How to perform the StrongMan Log Lift

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the StrongMan Log Lift using your body weight.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your primary working muscles.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your working muscles rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
