Suspension Split Fly

The Suspension Split Fly targets the chest and shoulders while enhancing stability and coordination.

  1. Attach the suspension straps to an anchor point at chest height.
  2. Stand facing away from the anchor, holding the straps with arms extended.
  3. Step one foot back into a split stance, keeping your core engaged.
  4. Slowly open your arms wide, maintaining a slight bend in the elbows.
  5. Return to the starting position, squeezing your chest as you bring your arms together.
  6. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

How to perform the Suspension Split Fly

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Suspension Split Fly using your body weight.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your pectoralis minor.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your pectoralis minor rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
