Tree Pose Vrksasana

Body WeightBeginner

Tree Pose, or Vrksasana, enhances balance and stability while strengthening the legs and core.

  1. Stand tall with your feet together.
  2. Shift your weight onto your left foot.
  3. Place your right foot on your left thigh or calf, avoiding the knee.
  4. Bring your hands to your heart or raise them overhead.
  5. Hold the position, focusing on a point in front of you.
  6. Switch sides after a few breaths.

How to perform the Tree Pose Vrksasana

  1. Set up. Set up in a stable, balanced starting position appropriate for the Tree Pose Vrksasana using your body weight.
  2. Brace and execute. Brace your core, control the descent, and move through a full pain-free range of motion while emphasizing your primary working muscles.
  3. Reset. Reverse the movement under control and reset between repetitions, keeping your form crisp on every rep.

Coaching cues

  • Move with intent — every rep should feel deliberate, not rushed.
  • Drive force through your working muscles rather than momentum.
  • Keep your breathing steady: exhale on the hard part, inhale on the reset.

Common mistakes

  • Using too much weight and losing positional control.
  • Cutting the range of motion short and missing the target muscle.
  • Letting your spine round or hyperextend instead of staying neutral.
